Backups and restores on your SFTPGo instance

Every SFTPGo instance is backed up daily to storage in a separate region from its primary, and restores are tested by the platform. The retention window for daily restore points is normally seven days.

To restore, log in the management dashboard. Go in the backups tab and click on the restore button for the selected date. Whole-instance restores are fastest; single-folder restores are pulled from the same points. There is no restore fee.

Restores recover the files and the configuration: folders, event rules, and settings are part of the backup. For extra safety on critical data, you can additionally keep your own copy, either by pointing a virtual folder at your own bucket or by pulling an archive over SFTP on a schedule. Nothing stops you from leaving: a full export is available at any time.
