Two valid paths
What each path actually is.
Coolify and DANIAN are not direct competitors — they sit in different categories. A tool you run versus a service that runs the tool for you.
DANIAN
Managed hosting for a curated catalog of 150+ open-source applications at a flat €9 per app, per month: PeerTube, Mattermost, n8n, Vaultwarden, Matomo, EspoCRM, Nextcloud, Mautic and others. There's no panel to install and no server to maintain — apps run on multi-tenant infrastructure with hardened container isolation, per-app resource guarantees and isolated networking, with terminal and file-manager access per container through the dashboard. Hardware, patching, the app's database, daily off-site backups, monitoring and human-on-call support come with it, across 21 datacenter regions on six continents.
CURATED CATALOG FLAT €9/APP
21 REGIONS 0 H/MONTH
Best fit: SMBs and teams that want to run a known open-source app without engineering it themselves; anyone whose hours are worth more than €60–120 per hour at the margin.
Self-host with Coolify
Coolify is open-source software (Apache-2.0, ~50K GitHub stars) you install on your own infrastructure — typically a VPS from any major cloud provider. It automates a meaningful chunk of day-one work: Docker, SSL via Let's Encrypt, basic monitoring, a template library for one-click app deploys, Git auto-deploy, preview environments, team features. The skill threshold for self-hosting drops. The ongoing operational responsibility — patches, backups, incidents, upgrades — stays with you because you own the VPS.
SELF-HOST ON A VPS
YOU OWN THE BOX
OPEN SOURCE
STRONG DX
Best fit: developers and small teams who want a strong self-hosting DX, have time to operate the infrastructure they provision, or have a developer in-house who does.
Positioning
What this page is comparing.

Coolify, for the purposes of this comparison
Operational reality
What running open-source apps on Coolify actually involves.
Coolify automates a real chunk of the day-one work, which is a meaningful improvement over raw VPS-and-Docker. What it doesn't automate is the ongoing operational ownership of the VPS you installed it on. Below is what's still on your plate.
Initial setup
~3 – 6 HOURS
• Provision the VPS, configure SSH key authentication, set up the firewall
• Install Coolify (one-line install handles Docker, basic config, SSL bootstrapping)
• Configure DNS records — A, AAAA, CAA, possibly MX/SPF/DKIM if the app sends mail
• SMTP relay configuration for transactional email
• Pick app templates from the library; configure environment variables in the Coolify UI
• Verify the apps run end-to-end; test imports, exports, admin flows
• Set up team access, projects, and resource separation if needed
Ongoing
~1 – 1.5 HOURS / MONTH
• Apply OS security patches; restart services where needed (Coolify doesn't patch the host OS)
• Coolify version upgrades — review the changelog, schedule an upgrade window
• Verify SSL auto-renewal actually ran across all configured domains
• Verify backups by restoring one to a test environment periodically
• Watch disk usage, log volume, container health — Coolify shows you, you act on it
• Read upstream release notes for the apps you run; plan minor upgrades
Incidents
UNPREDICTABLE
• Container won't restart at 3am; you debug it through Coolify's UI or SSH
• Coolify itself fails to start after a host reboot or upgrade — direct VPS access required
• Database disk fills up; emergency cleanup or volume resize
• Certificate didn't auto-renew; visitors see an SSL error in production
• VPS provider outage; you sit it out, or you've planned a failover and you fail over
• Compromised server (rare but real); incident response, rebuild, post-mortem
Major work
A FEW TIMES PER YEAR
• Coolify major-version upgrade — config migration, breaking changes between versions
• App version upgrade with breaking changes — schema migrations, config rewrites
• OS major-version upgrade — Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, kernel changes, broken packages
• Database major-version upgrade — Postgres 14 to 16, dump-restore
• VPS migration when a provider deprecates an instance type or pricing changes
• Compliance documentation when procurement suddenly asks for it
The math
Effective cost at 1, 5, and 10 apps.
Effective monthly cost — VPS infrastructure plus the time it takes to keep it running, valued at €60–120 per hour for a competent operator. Coolify's price is zero (it's open source); the cost is the VPS and your time. DANIAN's cost is €9 per app and zero of your time.
| PATH | 1 APP | 5 APPS | 10 APPS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-host with Coolify on a VPS VPS + backup + monitoring + your time¹ | €80 – 240 | €140 – 340 | €200 – 440 |
| DANIAN All-inclusive, your time: 0 h / month | €9 | €45 | €90 |
- $24/mo 2 vCPU / 4 GB / 80 GB production-class VPS + $5/mo object-storage backup + $15/mo monitoring = ~€41/mo infra, plus 0.5–1.5 h/mo at €60–120/h = €30–180/mo time. Day-one setup time is reduced relative to raw VPS-and-Docker because Coolify's install script and template library do real work; ongoing time is similar because OS patches, incidents, and major upgrades remain the operator's responsibility. Sub-$10/mo budget VPS providers reduce the infra line further but typically lack the backup tooling and monitoring add-ons production needs.
Where DANIAN wins
For one specific buyer — someone whose hours are worth more than the VPS bill.
Honest read
Two profiles where self-hosting with Coolify is the right choice.
If either describes you, stay on Coolify — the operational work is part of what you signed up for.
You have a developer or DevOps engineer in-house
Your company has someone whose job already includes running infrastructure. Coolify on a VPS slots into existing on-call rotation, monitoring stacks, and backup discipline. The marginal cost of running another open-source app through the existing Coolify deployment is small — your team is on call regardless, the patches roll on the same cadence, the backup tape covers the new app the day it's deployed. DANIAN's €9 buys you operational labour you've already paid for.
STAY ON COOLIFY
Total physical control of data is non-negotiable
Some workloads need data on infrastructure you physically control: government, intelligence, certain healthcare contexts, sovereignty-driven privacy stances. DANIAN runs on infrastructure we operate; we don't pretend that's the same as a server in your office. If the bar is total physical control, Coolify on a home server, an on-prem rack, or an air-gapped deployment is the right answer.

Where DANIAN fits better
Two profiles where DANIAN is the clearer pick.
Outside the two profiles above, most teams running open-source apps find DANIAN's shape easier to operate at lower total cost.
Outside the two profiles above, most teams running open-source apps find DANIAN's shape easier to operate at lower total cost.
You're a marketing lead, an HR manager, a founder, a product owner — your time is worth €60+ per hour at the margin, and the hours you'd spend on Coolify operations (OS patches, certificate verification, backup checks, incident response, version upgrades) are hours that aren't going into your actual work. DANIAN's €9 buys you out of that operational tax. The platform runs the apps; you run the business.
PICK DANIAN
You want chat support that performs the work, not a Discord server
Coolify is open-source software with community support — Discord, GitHub issues, documentation. Excellent for developers who like that model. For SMB and agency buyers who expect chat with a human who'll perform the DNS edit, configure the SMTP relay, and walk through the first import on request, DANIAN's support shape is fundamentally different. It's the most under-priced part of what €9 includes.

No more maintenance headaches!
Finaly, I can relax and not bother with maintenance. Each of the softwares that we run on DANIAN is automated and running stable for couple months already. They even assist us with modifying the DNS records. Once we needed to modify the config of Nextcloud so that we are able to upload higher than 5GB files and they assisted us fast. I also love their documentation!

Kevin Blackwell

Best managed service
I previously ran Peertube, Mastodon, Mattermost and Mirotalk on other providers before switching to DANIAN. I was tired of handling the updates and backups myself. Not only that the performance is "out of this world" fast, but their tech support is amazing. Since then I added 5-10 more Apps on my account. I also love how they add more softwares on their list constantly!

Smooth experience
I needed a way to manage the projects and files for my company. This was the first time I learn about opensource. I asked their support and livechat and they assisted me immediately. I started with Openproject. Later I added Nextcloud. My team were able to get used to the apps fast.

Love the freedom
I wanted to use a crm for my startup. I signed up for the free trial. Tried out espocrm and dolibar and picked one. Their dashboard is very easy for a beginner. I recommend them and feel confident in choosing them.

Wow just wow
After discovering DANIAN, I wished I'd found them sooner — their solution is excellent and deserves wider recognition. Very good solution!

Professional tech support!

Bastian Engel

Their support team is the best!
I had a problem with my card and the subscription could not be renewed in time. I notified their support and surprisingly, they showed much understanding. They basically left my apps run until I solved the card issue. Other providers would have deleted my data in a heartbeat. This is the way to build client-vendor trust!

George Adams

Fair price and fast
4 months ago I activated n8n, Uptime kuma, Vaultwarden and Paperlessngx. So far everything is perfect. The performance of all apps is excellent. I contacted their support team couple times for using custom subdomains for the apps and they were fast and kind. I'm constantly recommending them to my network!

Vaultwarden 10/10
I wanted to selfhost a passwords manager for my company but I didn't trust the mainstream providers. I tried out Vaultwarden for the free trial. I loved how their support team communicated with me professionally but still kind. I know that I can contact them whenever with whatever question I have. Recommended!

Everything just works!
My focus is on my business, not running servers. I love that I can lauch any app without having to think about the tech behind it. Everything just works!
Tony Roy

Awesome support team!

Filip

Very proactive!
Today couple of the videos on my Peertube got viral. Before I even noticed, their support have notified me via email that they proactively upgraded my app with more cpu & ram so that it continues to work without any downtime. They left the upgraded app with the added resources for couple days until the traffic stabilizes. After that I had the possiblity to stay on the same plan or keep the upgraded plan. Out of gratitude I stayed on the upgraded one.

Win-win!
I run a web design biz. After I perform the work for my clients, they constantly ask me for more software solutions. So I partnered with DANIAN. Not only I provide the requested softwares for my clients and get the increased revenue boost by delegating all to DANIAN, but also for those clients that wish to order directly from DANIAN, I send them an affiliate link. Win-win on all sides!

Awesome customer service
I needed to add analytics on my website but I didn't know anything about DNS. Their team guided me at all phases and they performed the changes for me. Additionally they were transparent and notified me of every change applied and steps performed.

Gabriele Marino

Good admin dashboard
Not only that I got Chatwoot, I also have access to the management dashboard. I love that I can view my hourly/daily usage and perform manual backups and restorations if needed. I don't need the level of control but it feels good to know that I have it if I need it.

Great service!
I configure custom Matomo tracking for my clients as a monthly service. Many of my clients were asking if they can selfhost Matomo instead of using the Cloud service. My employee recommended DANIAN. Basically, I can activate as much Matomo's in any of 20+ countries the same day. Additionally the affiliate revenue is a nice bonus.

Jacob Turner

Smooth experience
I was listing through youtube tuts on how to install Bookstack myself. Then randomly, I found their video playlist exactly for Bookstack. Got curious and went at their website. For the same price (or higher) that I would pay for just the VPS, with them I'm getting a fully managed Bookstack. It's a no-brainer decision!

Its a great service
Its a great service. I love the performance of my Mastodon community. It keeps on growing and I don't have any worries about backups, secuirity, updates, etc.

Vinícius Rocha

Very intuitive solution!
I wanted to use a nocode software for my company. A friend recommended them so I tried both Baserow and NocoDB, couple days later picked one.
