ABOUT THE SOFTWARE

What is Typebot

Typebot is a visual chatbot and conversational form builder. You drag blocks together to design a flow, then embed it as a popup, a chat bubble or a standalone page on your site, app or WhatsApp.

Typebot is built and maintained by Baptiste Arnaud, with code on the public baptisteArno/typebot.io repository. The project began under AGPLv3 in 2022 and switched to the Functional Source License in 2024, a Fair Source licence that becomes Apache 2.0 after two years. The repository has crossed 9,000 GitHub stars and ships official Docker images for the two Next.js apps it is composed of: a builder, where teams design flows and read results, and a viewer, which serves the bot to end users and handles WhatsApp webhooks.

Typebot ships 30+ blocks out of the box, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Stripe, Google Sheets, Webhook, Zapier, Make and Chatwoot. Notable users of self-hosted Typebot include lead-generation agencies, SaaS onboarding teams and independent SaaS founders who want full control of their form data.

FEATURES

What Typebot does

Typebot covers conversational forms, lead-qualification bots, in-app onboarding flows and customer-support deflection. The same builder produces a web embed and a WhatsApp bot from one flow definition.

Visual flow builder

Drag-and-drop canvas with 34+ blocks: text bubbles, image, video, buttons, picture choice, date picker, file upload and a Stripe payment input.

LLM blocks

Native blocks for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude and Mistral with model picker, system prompts, function calling and assistants thread support.

WhatsApp Business channel

Same flow definition powers a website embed and a WhatsApp bot. Connects via Meta system-user token, webhook URL and verify token.

Theming and white-label

Per-bot colours, fonts, roundness and shadows. Custom CSS via the theme panel. Per-workspace branding for agency client work.

Branching logic and variables

Conditional branches, URL redirects, JavaScript scripting, A/B test blocks and reusable variables that carry across an entire flow.

30+ integration blocks

Webhook, Google Sheets, Stripe, Zapier, Make, n8n, Chatwoot, HubSpot via webhook and Meta Pixel for tracking.

Multi-format embed

Standard container, popup with delay or click trigger, corner chat bubble with preview message, plus standalone hosted page on a custom domain.

Built-in analytics

Funnel view with per-block drop-off, completion rate, A/B variant counters and CSV export of raw responses.

WHAT'S ALWAYS INCLUDED

Every app. Fully managed.
Nothing extra to pay for.

Every app you deploy includes the full managed service — security, backups, updates, and support from day one.

Automatic updates and patches

Apps run the latest stable version. Security patches applied silently, with rollback if needed.

Daily off-site backups

Multiple daily backups in redundant off-site locations. One-click restore if anything goes wrong.

24/7 uptime monitoring

Continuous monitoring with instant alerting. We respond before you notice.

SSL, firewall, DDoS protection

Auto-renewing SSL, hardened firewall rules, DDoS mitigation on every deployment.

Performance and scaling

We monitor resource usage continuously. When your app needs more headroom, we flag it and upgrade with your explicit approval.

Dedicated engineering support

Real engineers on chat. DNS, SMTP & migration help. All included in €9.

WHY MANAGED

Why teams pick managed Typebot

In April 2025 the React Server Components advisory CVE-2025-55182 forced every self-hosted Typebot below v3.6.0 to patch on a deadline. Teams that had been running an unattended Docker Compose file felt that sting, and several moved to a managed instance the same week.

"Just run Typebot" sounds like one Docker command, but production needs more. Typebot is two Next.js apps that have to agree on NEXTAUTH_URL and NEXT_PUBLIC_VIEWER_URL, a Postgres database that owns 70+ Prisma migrations, an S3-compatible bucket with the right CORS and public-read policy for file uploads, an SMTP relay so magic-link sign-in works, and OAuth callback URLs for any social login provider. Skip any one of those and the bot looks installed but no one can actually log in to the builder.

The most common stumbling block is SMTP. GitHub issues #942, #1273, #1279, #2126, #2183 and #2193 all describe the same failure: the operator pastes correct Brevo, Postmark or Resend credentials into the env file, the builder boots, but the magic-link email never arrives because the cloud provider silently blocks outbound port 25, 465 and 587 by default. The viewer logs [next-auth][error][SIGNIN_EMAIL_ERROR], the team rebuilds the container three times, and Friday is gone.

The managed instance ships with that floor wired in. Defaults you get on day one:
  • SMTP relay pre-configured with authenticated outbound on port 587/2525, so magic-link auth works on first sign-in
  • S3-compatible bucket pre-wired to the file-upload block, with CORS and public/private path policies set
  • Postgres latest stable pinned, with point-release auto-updates inside the major version
  • Builder and viewer behind one managed domain with auto SSL on apex and any custom subdomain
  • Separate nightly dumps for the Typebot database and the uploaded media bucket, kept off-site for 7 days

USE CASES

Three teams who run Typebot on DANIAN

Each example below mirrors a real shape of Typebot deployment. Specifics like region, integrations and team size are representative of the most common configurations we set up.

12-PERSON LEAD-GEN AGENCY

Replacing per-seat Typeform

Twelve operators across two timezones moved off Typeform when the per-seat math crossed $200/mo. The Typebot instance runs in Germany with the WhatsApp Business channel for inbound client intake and an OpenAI block that qualifies leads before booking a call. Each client gets a sub-folder and a custom subdomain.

BOOTSTRAPPED SAAS FOUNDER

In-app onboarding bot

A two-person SaaS team runs Typebot as the in-app onboarding bot for trial activation, hosted in Singapore. The flow combines an OpenAI block grounded in product documentation with a Stripe payment input that converts trial users to paid in the same conversation. Embed is the corner bubble on every authed page.

3-PERSON SALES-DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Landing-page qualification

A B2B sales team replaced their previous chat widget with Typebot for landing-page qualification, hosted in USA. The standalone JavaScript embed loads under 30KB, a webhook block fires every qualified lead into HubSpot with UTM variables, and the team uses A/B blocks to test opening copy across paid campaigns.

COMPARISON

Four ways to run Typebot

Most teams compare Typebot against the proprietary form SaaS they already pay for, or against a self-hosted setup on a VPS. The table below shows what each path actually costs at one, five and ten users, including the time a person on your team spends each month.

Self-host figure assumes a $24/month production-class VPS suitable for the builder, viewer and a Postgres database. Note that the viewer and builder both have to be running, and Postgres usually needs tuning past 25 active flows. Prices in $ taken from Typeform pricing accessed May 2026; figures in € reflect typical European operator rates.

BY INDUSTRY

Typebot for specific industries

Typebot bends well to four shapes of work in particular. Each block below names the operational standard it tends to run into, the configuration we set, a representative workflow and a quantifiable detail.

Lead-gen agencies often work under client data-processing agreements that name sub-processors and require regional data residency. The managed Typebot instance pins to one of the 21 regions, runs in a single workspace with one sub-folder per client, and routes each flow through its own custom subdomain so the client brand is preserved end to end.

A typical workflow: an agency builds a six-step intake bot for a B2B client, embeds the bubble on the client's WordPress site, and pipes qualified leads through a Webhook block into the client's HubSpot or Pipedrive instance. The same flow is exported to JSON and cloned for the next client, with subdomain and webhook URL swapped in seconds.

Quantifiable: a 12-operator agency that replaces five per-seat Typeform Business licences ($99/mo each = $495/mo) with one €9/mo managed Typebot instance saves about €5,500 per year, before counting the time recovered from per-client form rebuilds.
DTC stores running on Shopify, WooCommerce or BigCommerce care about page weight, consent capture and post-purchase data flow. The managed Typebot instance ships the embed library at under 30KB, no iframe, no external dependencies, so quiz funnels do not pull down Lighthouse scores. Consent text is captured as a structured variable on every submission and stored on encrypted-at-rest volumes.

A typical workflow: a skincare brand runs a six-question pre-purchase product-finder quiz as a standalone page on quiz.brand.com. Answers feed a Webhook block that posts to Klaviyo to tag the subscriber and to Shopify to apply a personalised discount code on checkout. The Stripe payment input handles upsell items inside the same conversation.

Quantifiable: a brand running 20,000 monthly quiz starts on Typebot Cloud Pro pays $89/mo plus per-chat overage above 10,000. The same volume on a managed self-hosted instance is the flat €9/mo, with the bucket and Postgres scaled in place if the funnel takes off after a paid campaign.
SaaS teams use Typebot for two jobs: in-app onboarding and pre-sales qualification. Both lean on the OpenAI block, the Stripe payment input and the webhook layer that ships data into the product database. The managed instance runs the builder on one subdomain and the viewer on another, with Postgres 16 pinned so the migration history stays predictable across product releases.

A typical workflow: a horizontal SaaS embeds the corner bubble on every authed page. The bot answers documentation questions through a grounded OpenAI block, escalates to Chatwoot when confidence is low, and triggers Stripe checkout inside the chat for trial-to-paid conversion. Webhooks fire activation events into the product analytics layer.

Quantifiable: replacing a typical chat-widget SaaS at $50–$80/seat across a five-person team saves $250–$400/month, while keeping all chat content and lead data inside the team's own infrastructure rather than a third-party vendor.
Recruiting teams operate under data-minimisation expectations: collect only what the role needs, and keep candidate data scoped. The managed Typebot instance is configured with field-level encryption variables for sensitive answers, an S3 bucket with no public read for CV uploads, and a retention rule that prunes anonymised candidates after a chosen window. Teams handling candidate data should confirm their own data-protection chain.

A typical workflow: a 50-person scaleup runs a screening flow that asks five role-fit questions, captures a CV upload, books a first interview through a Cal.com or Calendly link block, and posts the candidate record to Greenhouse via webhook. Picture-choice and conditional branches keep the conversation human rather than form-shaped.

Quantifiable: the same flow on Typeform's HR-focused Talent plan starts at $119/mo per recruiter on annual billing, against the flat €9/mo for the managed Typebot instance regardless of recruiter count.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything teams ask before signing up — answered straight, without sales speak.

Three groups: technical setup, migration, and how DANIAN works as a service.

01

Technical and configuration

Yes. Typebot ships native blocks for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude and Mistral, plus a generic HTTP request block for any other LLM endpoint. We run Typebot v3.x with the latest LLM block updates, so model lists pulled from each provider stay current without you redeploying.
Each managed instance gets its own S3-compatible bucket pre-wired to the file-upload input. Public assets go to a public/ prefix with a read-only policy, private uploads stay scoped to the bucket owner. We tune the bucket to the same region as the app.
Typebot is two Next.js apps. The builder is where your team designs flows and reads results. The viewer renders the public bot to end users and handles WhatsApp webhooks. We tune both behind one managed domain with auto SSL, so you get app.yourdomain and bot.yourdomain without hand-editing NEXTAUTH_URL or NEXT_PUBLIC_VIEWER_URL.
Create a permanent system-user token in Meta Business with whatsapp_business_management and whatsapp_business_messaging scopes. Paste the token, the Phone Number ID and the WABA ID into the Publish > WhatsApp panel. Then wire the webhook URL and verify token to your viewer endpoint, including the message-template approval round-trip.
Yes. Typebot has 30+ integration blocks. Native blocks cover Webhook, Google Sheets, Stripe, Zapier, Make, n8n, OpenAI and Chatwoot. The generic Webhook block covers HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and any other endpoint with a POST receiver. We tune outbound DNS so webhook payloads do not hit cold-start delays, and we keep retry logs on failed POSTs for 14 days.

02

Migration and onboarding

We can activate your app on your own custom domain/subdomain. Examples: mydomain.com, anyword.mydomain.com.
Or, on our randomized free subdomain. Example: 963.apps.danian.cloud
If you wish to use a custom domain/subdomain, select that option when ordering your app (or notify us later). We will send you the required DNS records and if needed, our tech team will modify them for you.
21 datacenter locations across six continents. You choose the region at provisioning. Application data sits in the region you choose; pick whichever is closest to your users or matches your data-residency preference.
Yes. Request a region migration from the dashboard and we run the move in the background. The system emails you when the migration completes; total transfer time depends on data volume but typical instances finish in a few hours. There is no extra charge for a region change.
Yes. Full data export is available at any time, in a portable format you can bring to any infrastructure.
Export Typeform responses as CSV from the Results panel, rebuild the form structure inside Typebot using the visual builder, and import historical responses through the Typebot API or the Google Sheets bridge. A 30-question Typeform with branching usually maps to a Typebot flow in two to four hours. We can pair on the first one if helpful.
Tally and Jotform both export JSON or CSV. Their conditional logic is shallower than Typebot variables, so most flows simplify rather than translate one-to-one. Recreate the form in Typebot, point any existing webhook receivers at the new viewer URL, and switch DNS for the embed only after the new flow has parity in user testing.
Yes. Typebot supports JSON export and import per flow from the builder. You can also share a typebot via a public URL and duplicate it.

03

Billing, support, and platform

€9 covers everything we do for that app: hardware in the region you choose, daily off-site backups with one-click restore, automatic security patches and version upgrades, 24/7 monitoring, SSL and firewall, and engineering support on Email/LiveChat. There are no setup fees or hidden line items. For more info see our Pricing page.
If you decide to continue, we charge €9/app/month from day 8. If you don't, the trial ends and you can export your data. No card is required for the trial, and we never auto-charge you without explicit consent.
No. The €9/month is flat regardless of how many users log into your app. Add 5 users or 50; the price doesn't change.
24/7 Live chat and email support, both staffed by engineers who run the systems. We handle DNS configuration, SMTP setup, app integrations, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and migration help. Response time is typically under an hour. There is no tier system — every customer gets the same support.
Yes. Cancel from the dashboard. We don't charge a cancellation fee, we don't lock data, and we will export your data to you on request before deletion. data to you on request before deletion.
Every customer instance is backed up daily to a separate region from the primary. We test restores. You can request a restore at any backup point within the retention window — usually 7 days for daily backups.
Your application data sits in the region you choose at provisioning — 21 datacenter locations across six continents. Account-level data (billing, account email, support ticket history) is processed centrally. Application data region is picked by you, per app.
