ABOUT THE SOFTWARE

What is Parse Suite

Parse Suite bundles Parse Server, the API and Cloud Code runtime, with the Parse Dashboard, the browser console for editing data and permissions. Together they give a mobile or web client a backend it can talk to over REST or GraphQL without you writing one.

The project started life as Parse.com, was bought by Facebook, and was open-sourced on 28 January 2016 when the hosted service was given a year's notice. That service closed on 28 January 2017, and the code moved to the parse-community organisation in April 2017, where volunteers have maintained it since. It is licensed Apache-2.0, which places no restriction on running it as a service for someone else.

Parse Server is a Node.js application that stores objects in MongoDB or, with PostGIS added for location queries, in PostgreSQL. The project publishes its own container images and keeps the previous major release on a security-only branch after a new one lands. That release discipline is the reason self-hosting is viable at all, and also the reason it needs attention: majors have dropped Node.js versions, dropped database versions and changed security defaults.

FEATURES

What Parse Suite does

Parse Suite gives a client application the pieces it would otherwise need a backend team for: a queryable object store, accounts and sessions, server-side logic, real-time updates and push. The client SDKs cover iOS, Android, JavaScript, Flutter, PHP and .NET.

REST and GraphQL APIs

Every class is reachable over REST, and a GraphQL schema is generated from your data model, so a client can query without a hand-written API layer.

Objects, classes and schema

Objects are stored in classes with types inferred on first write, then pinned so later writes cannot quietly change a field's type.

Class-Level Permissions and ACLs

Read and write rights are set per class and per object, with pointer permissions deriving object rights from a field rather than a stored list.

Accounts and third-party sign-in

Email and password accounts, anonymous users, roles, and sign-in adapters for the common identity providers including Apple and Google.

Cloud Code

Server-side callable functions, scheduled jobs, and before and after triggers on save, delete and find that run with elevated rights.

LiveQuery subscriptions

Clients subscribe to a query over a WebSocket and receive create, enter, update, leave and delete events, filtered by the same permissions as a normal query.

Push notifications

Push to Apple devices with an APNS key and to Android through FCM, issued from Cloud Code with the master key rather than from a client.

Parse Dashboard

A browser console for browsing and editing data, changing class permissions, running REST and GraphQL queries, and restricting who sees which app.

WHAT'S ALWAYS INCLUDED

Every app. Fully managed.
Nothing extra to pay for.

Every app on DANIAN ships with the same operational baseline. You do not choose a backup add-on or a monitoring tier. Hosting, patching, backups, SSL, and support are part of the €9, and they apply to Parse Suite the same way they apply to everything else in the catalog.

Automatic updates and patches

Apps run the latest stable version. Security patches applied silently, with rollback if needed.

Daily off-site backups

Multiple daily backups in redundant off-site locations. One-click restore if anything goes wrong.

24/7 uptime monitoring

Continuous monitoring with instant alerting. We respond before you notice.

SSL, firewall, DDoS protection

Auto-renewing SSL, hardened firewall rules, DDoS mitigation on every deployment.

Performance and scaling

We monitor resource usage continuously. When your app needs more headroom, we flag it and upgrade with your explicit approval.

Dedicated engineering support

Real engineers by email and ticket. DNS, SMTP & migration help. All included in €9.

WHY MANAGED

Why teams pick managed Parse Suite

Firebase Dynamic Links stopped resolving on 25 August 2025, and teams built on it discovered the replacement was their own code. Parse Suite answers that by being software you hold rather than rent. Running it safely is the part most teams underestimate.

Getting Parse Server to answer a request is an afternoon. Keeping it answering is the rest of the year: a database that needs indexes before the first slow query, a Redis instance behind LiveQuery so subscriptions survive a restart, certificates on two hostnames, push certificates that expire quietly, and a major-version upgrade path that has removed Node.js releases and changed defaults more than once.

The failure that costs most is quieter than any of those. A new Parse class inherits permissive Class-Level Permissions, so a class created from a client SDK can be read by anyone holding the App ID until someone closes it. And the master key restriction that is supposed to be the backstop can be walked past: behind a reverse proxy, a forwarded-for header can be made to look like a loopback address unless the proxy-trust setting matches the real hop count. Both are configuration, not bugs, and both are invisible until the data is already out.

USE CASES

Three teams who run Parse Suite on DANIAN

The pattern that repeats is a small team shipping client applications who need a backend to exist and behave, and who do not want a metered bill or a platform decision made for them. Three shapes of that.

SIX-PERSON IOS STUDIO

One instance per client app, billed through to the client

Each client app gets its own Parse Suite instance in the location that client asks for, so a data question never crosses between accounts. Cloud Code carries the account-deletion function Apple requires, and the studio bills the €9 through as a line item.

TELEMETRY FLEET, 400 DEVICES

Readings every five minutes into one class

Roughly 115,000 objects a day land in one class through the REST API, each device holding its own account and object rights. LiveQuery with Redis behind it feeds an operations screen, and old readings are rolled up by a scheduled Cloud Code job.

FIELD RESEARCH PROGRAMME

An offline-first client that reconciles when signal returns

The mobile client queues records locally and writes them when it reconnects, with before-save triggers rejecting duplicates. The instance sits in the region closest to where the work happens, which cuts the round trip that field staff feel most.

COMPARISON

Four ways to run Parse Suite

A backend is not priced by seats, so this table scales by the size of the app instead. One instance, three points of growth. The metered path starts cheaper and stops being cheaper; the flat path does not move.

Path5,000 monthly users25,000 monthly users75,000 monthly usersNotes
Metered backend service~$7/mo~$35/mo~$111/moPriced by reads, writes, stored bytes and transfer. No ceiling, and a loop in a client release can move the bill overnight.
Self-host on a VPS$24/mo$24-48/mo$48+/moPlus your time: database indexes, Redis for LiveQuery, certificates on two hostnames, and every major upgrade.
Home server~€650 once+ ~€6/mo powernot advisableAn Intel NUC or similar runs it, but a mobile backend behind a home connection means your users see your outages.
DANIAN managed Parse Suite€9/mo€9/mo€9/moFlat. Backups, updates, monitoring, certificates and support included, in the location you picked.
Who holds the dataYou can take a database dump on any of the four paths except the metered service, where export is on the vendor's terms.
Ops time per monthRoughly zero on the metered service and on DANIAN. Count several hours on a VPS, more the month an upgrade lands.
What happens on a shutdownOpen-source paths keep running. A hosted service that closes gives you a migration window, as this project's own history shows.

Figures for the metered path are modelled from published pay-as-you-go rates at one app instance, and exclude the free daily allowance. The three columns hold file storage and transfer inside what a €9 app already includes, so the flat price is a like-for-like comparison rather than a headline.

BY INDUSTRY

Parse Suite for specific industries

A backend inherits the obligations of whatever is built on top of it. These four put different demands on the same software: one on deletion, one on device identity, one on who may read a record, one on what may be collected at all.

Apple's App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(v) requires any app that lets a user create an account to also offer account deletion from inside the app, and reviewers reject builds that only link to a web form. Parse Server makes that a Cloud Code function rather than a feature request: a callable function running with the master key deletes the user record, cascades to the classes that point at it, and revokes the session, so the client only needs a button. We give each client app its own instance, so a studio holding twelve accounts never has one client's data in another client's database, and a handover means passing over one instance rather than untangling a shared one. At €9 an instance, the line item usually disappears inside the retainer.

The UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure regime, in force since 29 April 2024, bars shipping consumer connected products with universal default passwords and requires a stated support period. That pushes device identity onto the backend. On Parse Suite each device is its own user record with its own credentials and its own object rights, so a compromised unit exposes its own readings and nothing else. We turn client class creation off, so a device cannot invent a class, and we put Redis behind LiveQuery so the operations view survives a restart. A fleet of 400 units reporting every five minutes writes roughly 115,000 objects a day, which one instance handles without tuning beyond the indexes we set at build.

FERPA, at 34 CFR Part 99, restricts who may see a student record and requires the institution to keep a record of disclosures. That maps onto Class-Level Permissions almost exactly: a class holding student data gets no public read, and access arrives through roles, so a teacher account reaches its own class list and nothing wider. We set roles at build rather than leaving the class open, enforce private user records, and keep the Dashboard behind a login on a separate hostname from the API so an administrator console is never reachable from the app's domain. A district with 12,000 student records runs comfortably inside one instance, and the nightly backup gives the institution a copy it can hand to its own counsel.

COPPA requires verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from a child under thirteen, and rewards collecting less in the first place. Parse Suite helps by making the schema explicit: fields are pinned once written, so a client release cannot quietly start storing a birth date the consent flow never covered. We enforce private user records so one child's account is not readable by the next, and we keep email out of the verification and reset flows the upstream project already stripped it from. A leaderboard class gets public read and no public write, which is the whole permission set most of these apps actually need.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Three groups. First the configuration questions that decide whether a Parse instance is safe, then what a move from an existing backend involves, then the platform questions that apply to any app you run with us.

01

Technical and configuration

We never start it in development mode, which would disable its login and send the master key in clear text. It runs behind authentication over TLS on a hostname separate from the API, with each user limited to the apps you name.
Cloud Code is read at start-up, so a change needs a restart rather than a rebuild. Your cloud directory is mounted as a volume you can write to over SFTP or the file manager, and restarting the instance from the dashboard takes seconds.
Yes, to Apple devices with an APNS key or certificate and to Android through FCM. Push is a master-key operation, so it is issued from Cloud Code rather than from a client. Certificates expire quietly, so we tell you before yours does.

02

Migration and onboarding

21 datacenter locations across six continents. You choose the region at provisioning. Application data sits in the region you choose; pick whichever is closest to your users or matches your data-residency preference.
Yes. Request a region migration from the dashboard and we run the move in the background. The system emails you when the migration completes; total transfer time depends on data volume but typical instances finish in a few hours. There is no extra charge for a region change.
Yes. Full data export is available at any time, in a portable format you can bring to any infrastructure.
Yes. Point a record at the instance and we issue and renew the certificate. Most teams use one hostname for the API and a second for the Dashboard, so the console can be firewalled differently from the endpoint the app talks to.
Yes. Tell us what you are trying to reach and we will give you the exact record to enter at your registrar, or check the change once you have made it. This is part of support rather than a paid onboarding service.

03

Billing, support, and platform

€9 covers everything we do for that app: hardware in the region you choose, daily off-site backups with one-click restore, automatic security patches and version upgrades, 24/7 monitoring, SSL and firewall, and engineering support on email and the ticket section in the client portal. There are no setup fees or hidden line items. For more info see our Pricing page.
If you decide to continue, we charge €9/app/month from day 8. If you don't, the trial ends and you can export your data. No card is required for the trial, and we never auto-charge you without explicit consent.
No. The €9/month is flat regardless of how many users log into your app. Add 5 users or 50; the price doesn't change.
24/7 email and ticket support, both staffed by engineers who run the systems. We handle DNS configuration, SMTP setup, app integrations, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and migration help. Response time is typically under an hour. There is no tier system — every customer gets the same support.
Yes. Cancel from the dashboard. We don't charge a cancellation fee, we don't lock data, and we will export your data to you on request before deletion. data to you on request before deletion.
Every customer instance is backed up daily to a separate region from the primary. We test restores. You can request a restore at any backup point within the retention window — usually 7 days for daily backups.
Your application data sits in the region you choose at provisioning — 21 datacenter locations across six continents. Account-level data (billing, account email, support ticket history) is processed centrally. Application data region is picked by you, per app.
99.9% uptime SLA on every app, every tenant. Service credits are documented at danian.co/service-level-agreement. The status page is located at status.danian.co.
When your tenant approaches the resource ceiling — the base tier holds 1 vCPU/RAM, 30 GB storage — we notify you. Resource upgrades happen with your explicit consent; we will not upgrade your tenant or charge you without it.
We wait. We don't suspend the app or delete your data on the first failed charge. We email you, you fix the card on file, and we continue.
Invoices can be downloaded from the billing dashboard in PDF the day each charge succeeds. EU VAT is added where applicable and the VAT-reverse-charge regime applies for VAT-registered businesses with a valid number.
