ABOUT THE SOFTWARE

What is GLPI

GLPI is an open-source platform for IT asset management and service management. One instance tracks your hardware, software, and licences, runs an ITIL-aligned helpdesk, and stores a CMDB. It is published under the GPL and used by IT teams, universities, and service providers worldwide.

GLPI is published under the GNU GPL v3 and maintained by Teclib', the French company that has sponsored the project for over twenty years. The current branches are GLPI 11.0.7 and the 10.0.x long-term-support line. GLPI 11, released in October 2025, added native custom asset types, an integrated form editor, a rebuilt self-service portal, two-factor authentication, and outbound webhooks.

Under the hood, GLPI runs on PHP 8.2 or newer with MariaDB 10.6+ or MySQL 8.0+. Hardware and software inventory arrives from the official GLPI Agent — version 1.17 shipped in March 2026 — which replaced the older FusionInventory agent. GLPI's own published adopters include University Paris Nanterre, Auchan Poland, and Montmorency College.

FEATURES

What GLPI does

GLPI bundles asset management and a service desk in one place. It inventories your devices and software, stores a CMDB, runs ITIL incident and change workflows, tracks SLAs and licences, and exposes a REST API. These are GLPI’s own capabilities; we run the platform they sit on.

Asset inventory and CMDB

Track computers, monitors, printers, network gear, mobile devices, racks, and certificates, each with its full lifecycle, location, contract, and warranty.

Native inventory agent

The official GLPI Agent collects hardware and software inventory from Windows, macOS, and Linux over HTTPS, and can scan the network for unmanaged devices.

ITIL service desk

Log incidents, requests, problems, and changes. Priority is set automatically from an urgency-by-impact matrix, the way ITIL v4 describes.

SLA and OLA management

Define time-to-own and time-to-resolve targets against business calendars, with automatic escalation when a target is at risk.

Software and licence management

Record installed software, licence keys, compliance counts, and end-of-life dates, so renewals and true-ups stop being a surprise.

Multi-entity

Split one GLPI instance into isolated entities for departments or clients, each with its own tickets, rules, and visibility.

REST API and webhooks

Drive GLPI from scripts and other tools through its REST and high-level API, and push events outward with GLPI 11 webhooks.

Plugins, dashboards, and knowledge base

Extend GLPI with community plugins for SSO and reporting, build dashboards, and publish a searchable knowledge base for self-service.

WHAT'S ALWAYS INCLUDED

Every app. Fully managed.
Nothing extra to pay for.

Every app on DANIAN ships with the same operational baseline. You do not choose a backup add-on or a monitoring tier. Hosting, patching, backups, SSL, and support are part of the €9, and they apply to GLPI the same way they apply to everything else in the catalog.

Automatic updates and patches

Apps run the latest stable version. Security patches applied silently, with rollback if needed.

Daily off-site backups

Multiple daily backups in redundant off-site locations. One-click restore if anything goes wrong.

24/7 uptime monitoring

Continuous monitoring with instant alerting. We respond before you notice.

SSL, firewall, DDoS protection

Auto-renewing SSL, hardened firewall rules, DDoS mitigation on every deployment.

Performance and scaling

We monitor resource usage continuously. When your app needs more headroom, we flag it and upgrade with your explicit approval.

Dedicated engineering support

Real engineers by email and ticket. DNS, SMTP & migration help. All included in €9.

WHY MANAGED

Why teams pick managed GLPI

On 30 March 2026, Atlassian stopped selling Jira Service Management Data Center to new customers, and raised Data Center prices weeks earlier. Teams who chose self-hosted ITSM to control cost are looking for another home. GLPI is the mature open-source option — but running it well takes ongoing work.

Installing GLPI is the easy part. Keeping it healthy is the job. The database needs timezone tables loaded and tuning as ticket and inventory volume grows. PHP versions move, and GLPI follows; an upgrade that skips a step can leave plugins suspended. Email-to-ticket, SLAs, and notifications all depend on a background job that has to be wired correctly.

That background job is GLPI’s most common production failure. GLPI’s automatic actions can run in two modes. Left on the in-browser default, they only fire while someone has GLPI open — so on a quiet helpdesk, emails never become tickets, SLA timers never tick, and escalations never fire. The fix is a system cron running as the web-server user. We wire that on every instance, in CLI mode, and we monitor that it actually runs.

USE CASES

Three teams who run GLPI on DANIAN

GLPI fits very different teams: an internal IT department, a service provider juggling many clients, and a university IT group with thousands of devices. Each uses the same platform differently. Here are three setups we see, with the configuration choices that make them work.

600-PERSON MANUFACTURER, INTERNAL IT

Replacing a shared spreadsheet and an Outlook mailbox

Around 1,200 endpoints, inventoried by the GLPI Agent on every laptop and server. Users sync from Active Directory over LDAPS. A mail collector turns helpdesk email into tickets over IMAP with OAuth. SLA rules set a four-hour acknowledgement, and the licence module tracks Microsoft 365 seats.

IT SERVICE PROVIDER, 18 CLIENTS

One GLPI, one isolated entity per client

Roughly 2,000 managed endpoints across clients. The root entity is the provider; each client is a child entity. Mail routing rules drop a ticket from a client domain into that client’s entity. SSO connects to the provider’s identity system, and per-entity SLAs keep each contract separate.

UNIVERSITY IT DEPARTMENT

Eight thousand devices across faculties

The GLPI Agent is pushed by group policy across faculties, each its own entity over a shared CMDB. Students sync from the directory and open tickets through the GLPI 11 self-service portal. Recurring tickets cover semester lab refreshes, and the Reports plugin produces device-depreciation listings for finance.

COMPARISON

Four ways to run GLPI

There are four realistic ways to run GLPI’s job: pay per agent for proprietary SaaS, self-host on a VPS, run a home or office server, or let us manage GLPI for €9 a month. Here is what each costs at one, five, and ten agents.

Path1 agent5 agents10 agentsOngoing operations
Jira Service ManagementPremium plan, cloud SaaS$51/mo$257/mo$514/moVendor-run. Data Center is no longer sold to new customers.
Self-host on a VPS$24/mo production-class VPS~$24/mo+ your time~$24/mo+ your time~$24/mo+ your time1–2 hours a month: cron, database tuning, upgrades, backups.
Home or office serverSynology or tower hardwareHardware + powerHardware + powerHardware + powerYou own uptime, backups, a static IP, and on-call.
DANIAN managed GLPIFlat, any number of agents€9/mo€9/mo€9/moNone. We run it, monitor it, and answer when you need us.

Jira Service Management has a free tier for up to three agents. Premium is the lowest tier that includes assets and a CMDB comparable to GLPI, so it is the fair like-for-like; ten agents on it list at about $514 a month before Marketplace apps. A production VPS adds roughly $20 a month for backups and monitoring on top of the $24, plus your own time. A €650 Synology DS923+ or an €800-plus HP ProLiant tower only makes sense if you already run one with a static IP and an off-site backup target. GLPI’s €9 stays €9 whether you have one agent or fifty.

BY INDUSTRY

GLPI for specific industries

Different industries put different demands on a service desk and asset database. A service provider needs hard tenant separation. A factory tracks line equipment alongside laptops. A university manages device fleets on a fixed refresh. Below are four where GLPI fits, and how we configure it.

MSPs depend on clean separation between clients and on hitting service targets. The relevant frame is ITIL v4 request fulfilment and incident management, applied per client. On DANIAN, we set up GLPI multi-entity so the root entity is your business and every client is an isolated child entity, with its own SLAs, calendars, and mail collector. A routing rule reads the sender domain and drops each incoming email into the right client’s entity, where the SLA timer starts and a group rule assigns a technician. SSO connects your team to your own identity provider, while client users get a self-service profile scoped to their entity only. A single GLPI instance commonly carries five to fifty client entities and several thousand managed endpoints, which is where the flat €9 cost separates hardest from per-agent SaaS.

University IT runs large device fleets on fixed budgets and refresh cycles. The operating frame is an ITIL v4 service catalogue plus disciplined asset-lifecycle tracking, since most institutions report device refresh by class. On DANIAN, we configure a GLPI entity per faculty over one shared CMDB, with the GLPI Agent deployed by group policy and users synced from the campus directory. A failed lab PC becomes a ticket through the GLPI 11 self-service portal, is auto-categorised to its building and lab, links to its asset record, and updates that asset’s last-incident date on resolution. Recurring tickets handle semester lab refreshes before term starts. A mid-sized campus typically tracks three thousand to twenty thousand endpoints on a four-year laptop and five-year desktop cycle, all visible in one place for planning and finance.

Factories track production-line equipment next to ordinary IT, and downtime is expensive. The relevant operational standard is ISO/IEC 20000-1 for IT service management, paired with asset-lifecycle accounting where line equipment runs five to seven years and IT endpoints three to four. On DANIAN, we build the CMDB around a location hierarchy — site, plant, line, cell — and keep operational technology in separate entities from office IT. Laptops and servers inventory through the GLPI Agent; controllers and panels that cannot run an agent are imported by CSV through the data-injection plugin. When a line controller fails, an operator opens an incident from a shop-floor terminal; impact is set to production line, priority rises automatically, and the maintenance group is notified. A single plant often tracks five hundred to five thousand assets, each tied to its contracts and warranties.

Consulting, legal, and accounting firms run large laptop fleets and care about clean asset records for finance. The relevant frame is fixed-asset depreciation, with laptops typically on a three-year useful life. On DANIAN, we keep GLPI single-entity, deploy the GLPI Agent through your mobile-device management, sync users from the directory, and use the licence and contract modules to track Adobe, Office, and the practice-specific tools your people bill with. A new hire triggers an onboarding ticket whose template assigns a laptop and the right licences and creates the asset record; an offboarding ticket reverses it and frees the licences. A firm of two hundred to five thousand staff sees roughly one ticket per person each quarter, while finance gets a current depreciation listing without chasing spreadsheets.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Three groups of questions, in order: how GLPI is configured and run, how to move in and onboard, and how billing, support, and the platform work. The technical answers reflect how we actually run GLPI in production, not a generic template.

Three groups: technical setup, migration, and how DANIAN works as a service.

01

Technical and configuration

FusionInventory is retired. The official GLPI Agent — version 1.17, from March 2026 — is the supported collector. It reports hardware and software from Windows, macOS, and Linux over HTTPS, and can scan a subnet for devices that have no agent. You deploy it by group policy, MDM, or a script.
GLPI sets ticket priority from an urgency-by-impact matrix, the way ITIL v4 describes. You define SLA targets for acknowledgement and resolution against a business calendar, and GLPI escalates automatically as a target approaches. Escalations and reminders run on the background cron, so a correctly wired job is essential.
Yes — that is what entities are for. One GLPI instance splits into a tree of entities, each with its own tickets, rules, mail routing, and visibility. Service providers use one entity per client; larger organisations use one per department. A recursive flag controls what child entities can see.
Yes. The data-injection plugin imports assets, tickets, and more from CSV, mapping your columns to GLPI fields. It is the usual route off a spreadsheet or another tool.
Yes. GLPI exposes a REST API and a high-level API for reading and writing tickets, assets, and more from your own scripts and tools. GLPI 11 adds outbound webhooks to push events to other systems. Terminal access is included on your plan if you want to script against it directly.

02

Migration and onboarding

21 datacenter locations across six continents. You choose the region at provisioning. Application data sits in the region you choose; pick whichever is closest to your users or matches your data-residency preference.
Yes. Request a region migration from the dashboard and we run the move in the background. The system emails you when the migration completes; total transfer time depends on data volume but typical instances finish in a few hours. There is no extra charge for a region change.
Yes. Full data export is available at any time, in a portable format you can bring to any infrastructure.
Most migrations come in by CSV through the data-injection plugin: export assets and tickets from your current tool, and we map them into GLPI. OCS has a legacy import path; spreadsheets and most helpdesks export cleanly to CSV.
Yes. Point your domain or a subdomain at your instance and we configure the GLPI base URL and a managed TLS certificate. Renewals are automatic, so the certificate never lapses. You can start on a danian.co subdomain and move to your own domain later.
Yes. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, no credit card. You get a real GLPI instance to load with your own data and test against your own workflows. If it is not the right fit, cancel from the dashboard and nothing is charged.

03

Billing, support, and platform

€9 covers everything we do for that app: hardware in the region you choose, daily off-site backups with one-click restore, automatic security patches and version upgrades, 24/7 monitoring, SSL and firewall, and engineering support on email and the ticket section in the client portal. There are no setup fees or hidden line items. For more info see our Pricing page.
If you decide to continue, we charge €9/app/month from day 8. If you don't, the trial ends and you can export your data. No card is required for the trial, and we never auto-charge you without explicit consent.
No. The €9/month is flat regardless of how many users log into your app. Add 5 users or 50; the price doesn't change.
24/7 email and ticket support, both staffed by engineers who run the systems. We handle DNS configuration, SMTP setup, app integrations, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and migration help. Response time is typically under an hour. There is no tier system — every customer gets the same support.
Yes. Cancel from the dashboard. We don't charge a cancellation fee, we don't lock data, and we will export your data to you on request before deletion. data to you on request before deletion.
Every customer instance is backed up daily to a separate region from the primary. We test restores. You can request a restore at any backup point within the retention window — usually 7 days for daily backups.
Your application data sits in the region you choose at provisioning — 21 datacenter locations across six continents. Account-level data (billing, account email, support ticket history) is processed centrally. Application data region is picked by you, per app.
99.9% uptime SLA on every app, every tenant. Service credits are documented at danian.co/service-level-agreement. The status page is located at status.danian.co.
When your tenant approaches the resource ceiling — the base tier holds 1 vCPU/RAM, 30 GB storage — we notify you. Resource upgrades happen with your explicit consent; we will not upgrade your tenant or charge you without it.
We wait. We don't suspend the app or delete your data on the first failed charge. We email you, you fix the card on file, and we continue.
Invoices can be downloaded from the billing dashboard in PDF the day each charge succeeds. EU VAT is added where applicable and the VAT-reverse-charge regime applies for VAT-registered businesses with a valid number.
150+ open-source apps across automation, team chat, file sync, analytics, AI, password management, email marketing, dev tools, project management, smart home, CMS, and federated social. See the full catalog →
Yes. Every instance comes with a web-based terminal and a file manager in your DANIAN management dashboard. Useful for managing your data and customizations.
Resources scale with your usage. If your app needs more vCPU, RAM, or storage, we add it — and we ask first before any change to your plan. €9 is the floor; resource-heavy workloads may price higher, but you'll always know in advance.
Yes. We have both a Partner program and an Affiliate program available. Anybody can sign up.
No contract. No minimum commitment. Cancel anytime from the dashboard with one click. The 7-day free trial requires no credit card. After the trial converts to paid, you can still cancel at any month without notice or penalty.
