What is Dolibarr

Dolibarr is an open-source ERP and CRM platform that consolidates sales, invoicing, stock, accounting, projects, HR, and member management into one install. It was created in 2003 by Rodolphe Quiédeville, has been led by Laurent Destailleur since 2008, and is maintained by the not-for-profit Dolibarr Association.

The codebase is released under GPL-3, written in PHP, and runs on PHP with MariaDB, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. The standard install footprint is under 200 MB before customer data; the database itself stays under a megabyte per hundred customers, suppliers, and invoices combined. That keeps even ten-thousand-invoice years well under a gigabyte of relational data — the rest is generated PDFs and uploaded supplier documents.

Dolibarr ships two major versions per year on a roughly February and June cadence, with the prior major still under active maintenance. The upgrade path supports moving from any version after 2.8 without a breaking migration — unusual at this catalog size. Hundreds of paid and free add-ons are available on the official DoliStore marketplace.

Why teams pick managed Dolibarr

France's mandatory B2B e-invoicing reception deadline lands on September 1, 2026, with PME and TPE issuance following on September 1, 2027. Belgium's Peppol BIS 3.0 mandate has been live since January 1, 2026, with penalties from April. The compliance clock is the trigger; managed hosting is the fix.

Self-hosting Dolibarr starts off looking easy. PHP and MariaDB on a VPS, an unzip, a five-minute web installer — and an instance that looks complete in the browser. The work that follows is what "just running Dolibarr" doesn't include: configuring the OS-level cron under the right user so scheduled jobs actually fire, sizing PHP's memory_limit and max_execution_time for TCPDF and ODT PDF generation, wiring SMTP with SPF and DKIM and DMARC so invoices don't land in spam, validating that the SIRET field and ISO 6523 schemeID are populated correctly so the September 2026 Plateforme Agréée gateways accept the Factur-X output, planning the major-version upgrade path so paid DoliStore modules don't break, and verifying backups by actually restoring them.

The single most-skipped step is the cron. Dolibarr's "Run now" button works fine in interactive mode, which is the trap — operators click it, watch the job execute, and assume the schedule is wired. Months later, a customer asks why their recurring invoice never arrived. Forum threads on this failure mode go back years (GitHub issue #12395 on the Dolibarr repository is one of the gnarlier variants: ODT-template PDFs generated by the cron come out with blank addressee data while manual generation works fine). The cron isn't hard once you've debugged it. It is hard to discover quietly going wrong.

DANIAN ships the cron pre-installed and pinned. The cron_run_jobs.php endpoint is hit every five minutes with the MAIN_CRON_KEY already injected, running under the same UID that owns the documents directory. The last-run timestamp surfaces on your DANIAN dashboard, so a silent cron failure becomes visible within a single billing cycle rather than a quarter. PHP is pinned to a current stable with memory_limit at 512M and max_execution_time at 300 seconds, OPcache is on, and the ODT/PDF pipeline has been load-tested against multi-page progress-billing invoices. The defaults below describe the platform; the next section is what Dolibarr itself does once the platform stops being your problem.

Does Dolibarr generate Factur-X natively, or do I need a DoliStore module for it?

Native — since Dolibarr 17. The invoice PDF generator emits Factur-X PDF/A-3 with embedded XML in the Minimum, Basic, and EN 16931 profiles. Peppol BIS 3.0 and German XRechnung require a separate DoliStore connector.

Can I run multiple legal entities in one Dolibarr install using the multi-company module?

Yes. The Multi-company add-on lets one instance host multiple legal entities with separate accounting, third parties, and document chains. The blast-radius caveat is real: 28 client books in one install means one cron, one backup chain, and one upgrade window — which is the point, but worth naming.

Why are customer names sometimes blank on PDFs generated by the recurring-invoice cron when the manual run works fine?

This is GitHub issue #12395 on the Dolibarr repository, against ODT templates with the "save as Draft" option enabled. Third-party data fails to populate on cron-generated PDFs while interactive generation runs without issue. We default to PDF templates rather than ODT for recurring invoices, and we monitor PDF outputs from cron jobs for empty addressee fields, flagging anomalies before they reach customers.

Can I customize the invoice PDF template (logo, legal mentions, IBAN block) without losing it on upgrade?

Yes. Custom invoice templates live in your custom directory, which is preserved across upgrades and included in the daily backup. We pin EPC QR-code generation on by default for SEPA payment, the BTP autoliquidation mention block is available as a one-click preset for French construction customers, and changes you make through the PDF customization interface persist through every version bump.

Is the REST API enabled, and can I integrate Stripe, Mollie, or a national tax-authority connector?

The REST API is enabled by default with token-scoped authentication. Stripe and Mollie modules are stable and widely deployed. For the September 2026 French Plateforme Agréée flow, the community PDP Libre module routes through certified PAs including Esalink.

Why is PDF generation timing out or running out of memory on long invoices and accountancy reports?

Dolibarr's default PHP profile assumes a small instance. TCPDF and ODT pipelines on multi-page invoices, year-end reports, and progress-billing situations exceed PHP's default memory_limit of 128M and max_execution_time of 30 seconds. We pin memory_limit to 512M, max_execution_time to 300 seconds (600 for the BTP profile), OPcache on, and post_max_size to 100M. Long PDFs render.

How does DANIAN handle outbound email so invoices don't end up in customer spam folders?

We provision a transactional SMTP relay with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records configured against your sending domain. Bounce handling and reputation monitoring are included. The recurring-invoice cron's outgoing email throughput is sized for the volumes Dolibarr ERP actually produces.

What happens after the 7-day trial?

If you decide to continue, we charge €9/app/month from day 8. If you don't, the trial ends and you can export your data. No card is required for the trial, and we never auto-charge you without explicit consent.

Are there per-user fees?

No. The €9/month is flat regardless of how many users log into your app. Add 5 users or 50; the price doesn't change.

What is included in support?

24/7 Live chat and email support, both staffed by engineers who run the systems. We handle DNS configuration, SMTP setup, app integrations, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and migration help. Response time is typically under an hour. There is no tier system — every customer gets the same support.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from the dashboard. We don't charge a cancellation fee, we don't lock data, and we will export your data to you on request before deletion. data to you on request before deletion.

How do you handle backups?

Every customer instance is backed up daily to a separate region from the primary. We test restores. You can request a restore at any backup point within the retention window — usually 7 days for daily backups.

Where is my data stored?

Your application data sits in the region you choose at provisioning — 21 datacenter locations across six continents. Account-level data (billing, account email, support ticket history) is processed centrally. Application data region is picked by you, per app.

What's the SLA?

99.9% uptime SLA on every app, every tenant. Service credits are documented at danian.co/service-level-agreement. The status page is located at status.danian.co.

How does scaling work?

When your tenant approaches the resource ceiling — the base tier holds 1 vCPU/RAM, 30 GB storage — we notify you. Resource upgrades happen with your explicit consent; we will not upgrade your tenant or charge you without it.

What happens if my card fails?

We wait. We don't suspend the app or delete your data on the first failed charge. We email you, you fix the card on file, and we continue.

What about taxes and invoicing?

Invoices can be downloaded from the billing dashboard in PDF the day each charge succeeds. EU VAT is added where applicable and the VAT-reverse-charge regime applies for VAT-registered businesses with a valid number.

Do I get terminal access to my instance?

Yes. Every instance comes with a web-based terminal and a file manager in your DANIAN management dashboard. Useful for managing your data and customizations.

What if I outgrow €9 or the per-app resources?

Resources scale with your usage. If your app needs more vCPU, RAM, or storage, we add it — and we ask first before any change to your plan. €9 is the floor; resource-heavy workloads may price higher, but you'll always know in advance.

Is there a Partner or Affiliate program?

Yes. We have both a Partner program and an Affiliate program available. Anybody can sign up.

Is there a contract or minimum commitment?

No contract. No minimum commitment. Cancel anytime from the dashboard with one click. The 7-day free trial requires no credit card. After the trial converts to paid, you can still cancel at any month without notice or penalty.
